3. TASK

PROJECT 1 EXERCISE 1 - AUDIO EDITING

For this project, we were given a muted video clip from the film Everything Everywhere All at Once, along with its subtitle script. Our task was to perform full audio post-production, including:

  • Dubbing character dialogues using our own voices

  • Sourcing appropriate sound effects and background ambience

  • Editing and compiling all audio elements using Adobe Premiere Pro to create a final synced version

We were divided into groups of four, and each group collaborated on collecting and assigning suitable sound effects from the following free resources:

PROCESS BREAKDOWN

Step 1: Sound Effect Collection & Team Coordination

Each member contributed to sourcing appropriate sound effects based on the actions and events occurring in the scene. We used shared folders and spreadsheets to track our downloads and clip assignments.

Step 2: Voice Recording

Once sound effects were collected, I recorded my character’s dialogue using my phone, ensuring a clean and quiet environment. The audio was then exported and transferred to my laptop.

Step 3: Import to Premiere Pro

All necessary media (video, dialogue recordings, sound effects, and ambience tracks) were imported into Adobe Premiere Pro for editing.

Step 4: Timeline Setup & Dialogue Sync

  • I locked the video track since no visual editing was required.

  • I placed each character’s voice line on separate audio tracks to organize and manage them efficiently.

  • Dialogue clips were trimmed and synced to the actor’s mouth movements using the subtitle script as a guide.

Step 5: Audio Effects and Voice Modulation

For male character, I applied a pitch shifter effect to deepen my voice and make it more realistic. For female, I applied a pitch shifter effect to make my voice higher.

Step 6: Adding Sound Effects & Ambience

I trimmed and placed sound effects and ambient noise appropriately throughout the timeline to enhance realism. Each clip was timed to match the corresponding action in the video.

Step 7: Volume Adjustment & Final Mixing

Final audio levels were adjusted as follows:

  • Dialogue: around -6 dB

  • Sound Effects: -12 to -10 dB

  • Ambience: below -20 dB

Fade-ins and fade-outs were also added where necessary to ensure smooth transitions between clips.

PROJECT 1 EXERCISE 2 - ADOBE AUDITION

For this project, we were tasked with recording 10 seconds of our voice speaking in our first language. After recording, we had to download and install Adobe Audition, where we would shape our voice using EQ and effects to create four specific sound types:

  • Voice of a phone call
  • Voice coming from inside a closet
  • Voice of toilet/bathroom
  • Underground cave voice
  • Alien/Orc voice

I started by recording my voice and then installing Adobe Audition. After that, I imported my voice recording and created a multitrack session for each sound effect.

1. Voice of Phone Call

For this, I had an easy time getting it to sound the way I wanted it to

2. Voice Coming from Inside of a Closet

For this effect, I wanted the voice to sound muffled, as if it were heard through a barrier, with a subtle echo.

3. Voice of Toilet/Bathroom

For the toilet/bathroom effect, I want small echoes.

4. Underground Cave Voice

For the cave effect, I aimed for a louder and more present echo than the closet toilet/bathroom.

5. Alien/Orc Voice

For the alien or orc voice, we were encouraged to be creative and ensure it didn’t sound like our original voice.
